LDS Zooms in ARRI Rental

Since the introduction of the Lens Data System (LDS), ARRI has continuously improved the system's features and increased the range of lenses available. ARRI now offers fourteen Ultra Prime LDS Lenses ranging from 12 to 180mm, and Cooke offers the LDS S-4 prime lenses. ARRI rental houses are now the first to also offer LDS zooms.

Even though the LDS system has great advantages when used with prime lenses, it really comes into its own with a zoom. Aside from the ability to see all three lens rings (focus, zoom, iris) on the Lens Data Display when the camera is on a crane, the graphical depth of field indication is extremely useful to gauge the depth of field for different focal lengths as the lens is zoomed. In addition, Cinematographers, Directors and Script Supervisors appreciate the fact that all lens information - including zoom - can be seen on the video assist. This makes the usual call across the set "Hey, what zoom setting do we have?" unnecessary, and makes for a much quieter and peaceful set.

A LDS version of the Angenieux Optimo 24 - 290mm zoom can now be rented from ARRI Media in London. In addition various ARRI rental houses will soon carry LDS Cooke 18-100 mm zooms.
